Artist's Comments

A maiko in a Summer Butterfly kimono feeds a colorful assortment of fauna.

Artist's Notes: The sleeves are too short for a maiko, and the bottom of the kimono is too long, but otherwise I'm happy with it.
Painted with Grumbacher watercolors and Koh-I-Noor white ink on cold press watercolor paper.

Size: 9"x12"

ORIGINAL CURRENTLY FOR SALE.
Prints pending approval.

EDIT: Oh man. Pardon the spelling errors. My brain is slipping.

EDIT 3/6/06:

I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I went in and changed a few things digitally in this piece- I took out one of the birds, added more butterflies, tweaked the tree, etc. I like this piece a lot better now. Anyway, if you bought one of the old prints, consider those to be very rare limited editions!

There is something immensely refreshing and exhilarating about running through rain so thick and cold it drips into your eyes and you actually have to use your soaked sleeve to clear it away.

I'm reminded of Barry Hughart's "Bridge of Birds" which revolves around a Chinese legend about the Princess of Birds, a mortal who has the power to summon all the birds of the world to help her cross the Bridge of Heaven to be with her true love. Mind, this pic is clearly Japanese but it's very similar.

Excellent work!

I smiled across the room, embarrassed rogue
through sheets of smoke.
Her stare burned my smile to ash.
