Thinking about adding design work here

I have mostly been using this account for my illustration and fine art. The truth is though that I do just as much, if not more design than illustration. Should I have a separate account for my design work or keep it all together? What do you guys think?

Still around, wish there was a reason to subscribe

Hello all.

Even if I have posted nothing new in forever, I still come here almost every day and browse the lovely eye candy you talented artists produce.

I currently have 1,327 deviations to peruse in my watch. Yikes! But I do look at them all. I find it very inspiring even if I'm not doing anything with it.

In case you are wondering what I have been up to:

I graduated college on December 14th. BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree from Florida Atlantic University, graduated with honors.

My boyfriend of seven years (six, at the time) proposed to me that night (squee!). My whole family was with me and got to see it.

I've been planning my wedding. Easy, I work at a great wedding company!

I bought a Wii in April after saving up for it since it first came out. I particularly love Dance Dance Revolution, Mario Galaxy, and Lego Star Wars.

I've become reaquainted with web design after a three year absence. What do you mean no one uses tables anymore?!? So I've learned css and table-less design, it's been fun actually! I feel much better about web design now. Print design will always be my favorite but web design makes so much more sense now.

I'm working full time in graphic design. I've been doing graphic design professionally since 2001 and I've worked at the same company as an in-house designer since 2005.

So, that's about it. Graphic Design is my passion in life, I find it completely fulfilling. I still enjoy doing illustration but fine art is not as fun for me as design. I think for me its always been more about illustration and less about fine art. I'm happy with how things are going for me. I may start an account just for my design work.

I want to finish my zodiac geisha paintings. I have three nearly complete on my desk right now. It's just kind of hard between my in-office design job, freelance design work, and planning my wedding.

As far as Deviant Art, I love the new site, I've gotten used to it. It's always jarring at first. I just wish there was a reason to subscribe. I've been a subscriber for years and it was always my pleasure to support the website in exchange for some exclusive features, which is only fair. Now there isn't a difference, except for the ads on my page, which don't bother me. With the economy as it is I have to justify which sites recieve my continued financial support. I don't love Deviant Art any less- look how long I've been here! Its just that money is kind of tight at the moment for most people in the US, its just not feasible to pay for something I can get for free. When the situation improves I will subscribe again, unless DA comes out with some irresistable subscriber goodies before then.

I'm sad to see Lolly go but Chixor will do a great job. I think the website is in good hands. And really its not just one person who runs this site, its a whole staff of great people. Its cool to see more of Lolly's art too!

That's about it for me. So know that I am here and active on the site even if I haven't submitted anything in a while.

Its hard to support original comics and stories

Sat Aug 2, 2008, 10:42 PM
I love to read good original online comics and stories, but its getting to be a disappointment. The last three projects I read have all been cancelled or put on hiatus! I know everyone gets busy, I don't hold it against them. I just think in the future I will hold off reading anything until its been completed. It sucks to get into a good story and then never know how it ends!

I'm being a hypocrit because I haven't posted anything new in months, and I haven't drawn anything new in almost a year. I hope to one day return to drawing, but right now I'm very focused on my career as a graphic designer- going on four years at a great company, doing their design work. Finished my BFA in December. I'm planning my wedding too, and because I want to do all the invitations and printed materials myself its taking up a lot of my time. If only I can find a place to do letterpress that doesn't charge me an arm and a leg. Mmm, letterpress! Gorgeous stuff.

So I've been busy, but I check Deviant Art every day and love to see all the beautiful and inspiring work here. I have a moleskine sketchbook I am filling with sketches, I will post them at some point.

The internet is not a giant clipart factory

Sun Jul 20, 2008, 2:37 PM
I find it disheartening to see people treating the internet as a giant clipart factory for their own personal and commercial use.

I would like people to use common sense and know that behind every piece of art is an artist who created said work, and that there is no excuse to use artwork you did not create for your own commercial purposes without permission from the original artist.

This is a general observation and not pointed at any particular user here at Deviantart.com yet. I am sure it is an issue that can and will be resolved in a friendly and efficient manner. Sometimes people don't mean to steal from artists, and I'm sure that is the case here :)

Stuff is different!?! v6 reactions

Fri Jul 11, 2008, 6:20 PM
Woah, back to a greenish grey? Anyway, I like it, its not too disruptive. I kind of liked the grey not so green but otherwise its cool. I like the inbox feel to the message center. Collapsable (sp?) fields are cool too. I wish I could view more deviations at once in my deviation watch center, but whatever.

Nice updsate!
